Homework Guidelines
Students should strive to turn homework in when it is due, late homework will be
accepted as needed, but no more than two weeks after it is due. During the second semester assignments will be accepted only one week after the due date.
If homework becomes overwhelming or too stressful just take a short break and try again. If that doesn't help, please let me know. When working on group projects please bring all materials to school when they are due as other students are depending on you!
I would like to thank our parents for all that you do to support our classroom and your student. Please remember that the best support you can provide them is words of encouragement for the effort that they put into their work every day.
Learning is about trying, effort and problem solving. Sometimes we can learn the most from our mistakes. Please support your student but let them try to solve assignments on their own. Homework is graded on effort and perseverance and takes into account the accuracy of the responses.
Classwork will be sent home for completion only when needed. If students take classwork home rather than focusing in the classroom they don't get the feedback from both peers and teachers that is critical to their thought process. It may also discourage them from participating in the peer editing process which is such an important aspect of our classroom; it provides students the opportunity to share and collaborate on assignments.
Students who are struggling to focus will be encouraged and supported to complete the majority of work with their peers.

If you believe your student needs an extension or more complex homework, please let me know and we can develop a student specific plan. Plan on spending no more than 30 minutes per night on math homework. Please remember, this is a focus on logic, problem solving and perseverance not just getting the right answer.
